RESOLUTION
ON KOSOVO AND METOHIJA OF THE ASSEMBLY OF SERBIA AND MONTENEGRO

(''Official Gazette of the SM'', No. 15/2004)

1. The Aseembly of Serbia and Montenegro hereby most strongly condemns the pogrom of Serbian and non-Albanian population committed on 17th through 19th March of this year, the evidence of which are murders, destruction and putting on fire of property, Orthodox churches and monasteries, symbols of Serbian presence and prime foundations in Kosovo and Metohija, that were carried out in an organised way by Albanian extremists and terrorists. These events are, among other things, a direct consequence of the transfer of jurisdiction from international administration to the provisional authorities of Kosovo.

2. We ask from the international community to fulfil consistently the obligations assumed by the Resolution 1244 of the United Nations Security Council and, parallelly to the increase in number and improvement of organisation of the international security forces, to energetically carry out investigation of the crimes that have been committed, and punish the perpetrators of the organised violence. In addition, we ask that houses, churches and monasteries be immediately restored, so that the expelled citizens coul return and thus the committed ethnical cleansing be anulled. The international community must demonstrate that it will not allow the realisation of their plans.

3. The Assembly of Serbia and Montenegro hereby calls the competent institutions of the state union to do everything possible within their jurisdiction, and first of all in the field of international activities, to find by applying political means, a solution for the present situation in Kosovo and Metohija, by respecting international law and the Resolution 1244 of the United Nations Security Council.

4. The Assembly of Serbia and Montenegro also suuports all the efforts put by the authorities of the member state Serbia in drafting the proposal for the political settlement of the present situation in Kosovo and Metohija.

5. The Assembly of Serbia and Montenegro condemns every vengeance and in particular the putting on fire two facilities of worship of the Islamic religious community.

6. We hereby address this resolution to our citizens, to competent institutions and to the entire international community, from which we expect the understanding and a response required by the international struggle against terrorism.

7. The present resolution shall be published in the ''Official Gazette of Serbia and Montenegro''.
