MEMORANDUM

OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE, FORESTRY AND WATER MANAGEMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF SERBIA AND THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE OF THE REPUBLIC OF LEBANON ON AGRICULTURAL COOPERATION

The Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Serbia and the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Lebanon, hereinafter referred to as the "Contracting Parties"

Abiding by the principles of equality and mutual benefits for both countries;

And expressing the desire to strengthen and develop bilateral agricultural cooperation,

Have agreed as follows:

Article 1

The Contracting Parties shall cooperate in the field of agriculture according to this Memorandum and in compliance with the legislations of both countries.

Article 2

The Contracting Parties shall conduct cooperation in the following ways:

- Development of bilateral agricultural trade;

- Exchange of agricultural information and results of scientific research;

- Cooperation in the field of scientific research, planning, training and visits exchange among scientists and experts;

- Organization of joint seminars and training courses in the different agricultural fields;

- Encourage the private sector investments in the agricultural sector through agricultural exhibitions, innovators meetings and establishment of joint ventures;

- Supporting the establishment of links between govemmental and nongovemmental organizations;

- Cooperation in the field of legislative and regulatory framework for the agricultural sector.

Article 3

According to this Memorandum, the Contracting Parties shall exchange their experiences in the following areas:

- Agricultural crops (forages. grains, vegetables and fruit trees),

- Technologies used in both countries in seeds and seedlings production,

- Improve the local varieties,

- Efficiency in the use of agricultural mechanization,

- Legislations and rules regulating the agricultural sector and governing agricultural products imported to both countries,

- Animal production and veterinary health including development of fish sector and improving the technologies of production, fishing and refrigeration and also in the field of apiculture,

- Water management, irrigation methods, and the rational use of water resources,

- Organic agriculture,

- Implementation of integrated pest management,

- Improving the use, cadastre and fertilization of agricultural lands,

- Marketing of agricultural products.

Article 4

Both Sides will implement all plant and veterinary quarantine measures in both countries to prevent the spread of relevant diseases with respect to intemational norms.

Article 5

Cooperation, in the above mentioned fields, may be provided to a third party, upon the approval of both Contracting Parties.

Such cooperation with a third party must be in compliance with the current laws and regulations of the Contracting Partiesꞌ countries and their engagements towards international agreements.

Article 6

The Contracting Parties shall establish a Joint Working Group. The Joint Working Group is responsible for explaining and implementing this Memorandum and will suggest development and cooperation programs and take the necessary actions to implement this Memorandum.

The Joint Working Group sessions shall be organized periodically in the Republic of Serbia and in the Republic of Lebanon.

Each of the Contracting Parties shall bear the expenses of its own representatives in the Joint Working Group. The accommodation expenses of technical workers and specialists shall be covered by the host country and travel expenses by the sending country.

Article 7

This Memorandum shall enter into force on the date of the reception of the last notification in virtue of which one of the Contracting Parties notifies the other about the completion of the necessary legal procedures for the entry into force of this Memorandum.

This Memorandum shall remain valid for one year unless either Contracting Party notifies the other, six months before the expiration date of the Memorandum, about its intention of amending or terminating it.

Article 8

Any amendment and supplement may be made to this Memorandum by mutual consent and shall be considered as an integral part thereof.

Article 9

The termination of this Memorandum shall not prevent the execution of activities and services that have begun, but have not been finalized yet at the moment of termination of this Memorandum.

Done in duplicate in................ on.................. in Serbian, Arabic and English languages, all texts being equally authentic. In case of divergence in interpretation, the English text shall prevail.
